to the New West Toledo YMCA
The YMCA of Greater Toledo has partnered with Toledo Public Schools, the City of Toledo and NorthPoint Church on one of the most exciting YMCA projects in the Y’s recent history. A new West Toledo Family YMCA will be built next to the new Start High School.
This is the largest social, recreational and educational investment ever made in this community, and it will reinforce the fabric of community life and promote the economic well-being of West Toledo.
West Toledo is a community of hard-working, family-oriented people and it’s fitting that when the YMCA of Greater Toledo opened the West Toledo YMCA in 1953, it was the first family YMCA in the entire country, serving more than 250,000 different people each year. The West Toledo branch is the largest in the city of Toledo, with almost 8,000 members.
This year, more than 16,000 residents will participate in activities at the West Toledo YMCA. More than 300 children will be cared for at the eight YMCA child care sites in the area. Funds raised by West Toledo residents during last year’s annual Scholarship Campaign helped more than 2,200 children, teens and adults to join the West Toledo YMCA, take swimming and gymnastic lessons, secure child care services, or attend day camp. The YMCA of Greater Toledo is an active member of the West Toledo community and hopes to serve even more community members in the coming years.
